The checks look for signals that make a page easier to quote. No tool can promise a citation, and Google says its AI features need no special markup.

What it checks

Twelve checks, in three groups.

Can AI reach it?

  • No noindex or nosnippet, which keep a page out of Google and its AI Overviews
  • robots.txt lets the search and answer bots of Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude in
  • The main text is in the HTML, not loaded later by JavaScript

Is it easy to quote?

  • The opening paragraph is short enough to lift as an answer
  • Several headings are phrased as the questions people ask
  • Tables or lists for comparisons and steps
  • An FAQ section for follow-up questions

Can it be trusted?

  • Statistics link to their source
  • A named author
  • A published or updated date within the last year
  • Structured data, and a title and meta description

What it can't tell you:it can't tell you whether you are cited today. To find out, ask your main questions in ChatGPT and Perplexity a few times and log the answers, and check the Generative AI report in Google Search Console for Google.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions.

What is an AI citation checker?
A tool that looks at one page the way an AI search engine would: can its bots reach the page, is the main text in the HTML, and is the content laid out so a passage can be lifted and credited. This one runs 12 checks and gives each gap a fix.
Does a high score mean ChatGPT will cite my page?
No. The score measures signals that make a page easier to quote. Whether an engine cites you also depends on the question, the other pages it finds and how much it trusts your site.
Do I need llms.txt or special schema?
Not for Google. Its guide to generative AI search says no special schema, AI text files or markup are required. The checker gives schema a small weight because it helps other engines read the page, and it does not check llms.txt.
Should I block GPTBot?
That is your call. GPTBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended collect data for model training. Blocking them does not stop OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot or Google Search from finding and citing your page, so the checker only fails a page for blocking search and answer bots.
Is it really free?
Yes. No sign-up, up to 20 checks a day. It reads the public page and its robots.txt and does not store what it finds.
