What is the difference between a 301 and a 302?

A 301 says the move is permanent, so search engines move the old URL's signals to the new one. A 302 says it is temporary and the old URL may come back.

How many redirects are too many?

One is normal. Two in a row is worth fixing, and long chains can make crawlers give up before they reach the page.

What is a redirect loop?
